My Battle with Cancer
“Whilst I’d managed to keep my fear more or less in check up to that point, panic now took hold of me. What was it that made immediate admission to hospital necessary? Why the rush? Without even going home to fetch a few things, I set off for the hospital.”
We know Tim Lobinger as a successful pole vaulter, a beaming winner and a model athlete with great charisma. A thoroughly healthy person, brimming with joie de vivre. This made the devastating diagnosis in the spring of 2017 all the more sudden: leukaemia. Since then, Tim has documented his daily life in the form of diary entries: he vividly describes the sudden intrusion of the illness into his life, the agony of the treatment, his concern for his young family, and the hope and anxiety surrounding his future. Tim’s account is moving in its candour – and it offers encouragement: it portrays a man who has taken up the fight against his illness in an admirable way.
