Yoga for Pregnant Women (book)

Exercises to relieve discomfort and promote an easy birth Yoga is a beneficial form of exercise for pregnant women, which strengthens, relaxes and gently prepares the body for childbirth. This comprehensive handbook presents seventy tried-and-tested asanas that are particularly suitable for this purpose, and also offers breathing exercises to prepare for childbirth, exercises for couples and classic Indian mudras. Using numerous photographs of the author taken during her own pregnancy, the individual asanas and their variations for each trimester are presented. At the same time, their respective beneficial effects, anatomical details, as well as warning signs and possible remedies are explained. Furthermore, this book offers specific exercise sequences for each trimester and strategies for tackling the most common pregnancy discomforts. The programme is complemented by effective postnatal yoga and exercises with the baby for the first year after birth. About the author: Katharina Rainer-Trawöger studied Indian art and culture at the University of Vienna. She is a qualified holistic art therapist specialising in dance and painting, and completed a classical yoga training course in India in the tradition of the Indian physician Swami Sivananda. For many years, she has been leading yoga training courses in the areas of pregnancy yoga, mum-and-baby yoga, children’s yoga and classical Indian Hatha yoga. As a yoga teacher and director of the Freiraum Institute in Vienna – Austria’s largest provider of antenatal yoga and mum-and-baby yoga – she has already supported over 2,000 pregnant women during this special time.
