Fascia Stretching (book)
Fascia Stretching (book)

*Fascial Stretching* describes and explains the unique manual treatment method known as Fascial Stretch Therapy™, developed by Ann and Chris Frederick. The method specifically addresses neuromyofascial imbalances and disorders and is now recognised as a fast-acting and effective therapy for restoring and maintaining a healthy nervous, muscular, skeletal and fascial system.  This handbook for trainers and therapists provides a thorough yet accessible explanation of how the method works, how it differs from other fascial treatments, and how it can be applied to all areas of the musculoskeletal system. Numerous colour photographs illustrate the techniques. The assessment process is explained in detail, enabling the therapist to assess their clients’ needs and plan an effective treatment programme. To further enhance the success of the therapy, the book also demonstrates how fascial stretching can be integrated into a comprehensive manual treatment programme. About the authors: Ann Frederick Ann Frederick is a former dancer. Since 1992, she has been practising manual therapy, specialising in mobility training, with a focus on assisted individual stretching, group stretching classes and dance tuition. She originally developed Fascial Stretch Therapy™ as a unique system within neuromyofascial manual therapy for the 1996 US Olympic men’s wrestling team and soon discovered that other clients also benefited from it. Chris Frederick Chris Frederick has been a physiotherapist specialising in manual therapy since 1989. He, too, has extensive experience in dance, both as a classical ballet dancer and in the specialist field of dance-specific physiotherapy. Furthermore, he is well-versed in the ancient movement and healing arts of Tai Chi and Qigong. Both Chris and his wife, Ann Frederick, were certified by Thomas Myers in Kinesis Myofascial Integration and ran their own centre for Fascial Stretch Therapy, body therapy, Kinesis Myofascial Integration, sports massage and Pilates for almost 20 years. Today, they run the Stretch to Win Institute, where they offer certification courses in FST.

Fascia Strength Training (book)

Build muscle effectively, sculpt your figure and prevent injuries Anyone who does strength training wants to strengthen their muscles, build muscle mass, perhaps combat pain or simply achieve a better physique. Germany’s best-known fascia researcher, Robert Schleip, and the physiotherapist and former professional footballer Berengar Buschmann demonstrate that fascia plays a key role in achieving all these goals through machine-based training. Their new strength and machine-based training programme specifically targets the connective tissue as well as the muscles. It prevents injuries, gives movements elastic tension, improves coordination and ensures defined, toned contours. Schleip and Buschmann are breaking new ground in this field. Until now, there has been no exercise system for strength training on machines that focuses specifically on the fascia. The authors have drawn on their practical experience to develop a new programme: with Panther Training, you can achieve not only muscular strength but also elegance, suppleness and balance in the gym. The book offers tests to identify your own connective tissue type, illustrated exercises on standard equipment with variations to suit different needs, detailed plans for three training levels, tips on addressing weak points, and an easy-to-understand introduction to the basics of fascial strength training.   About the author: Robert Schleip is regarded as Germany’s leading fascia researcher. He holds a PhD in human biology, is a Certified Rolfer and a qualified psychologist. Together with scientists and therapists, he works within a global network on research into muscular connective tissue and leads his own research group, the Fascia Research Group, at the University of Ulm. He also works as a manual therapist in his own Rolfing practice and gives international lectures on connective tissue research, as well as on physiotherapy, exercise science and osteopathy. His books published by riva Verlag include *Fascia Fitness* (2014, co-authored with Johanna Bayer) and *Fascia in Sport and Everyday Life* (2015, co-authored with Amanda Baker). Berengar Buschmann studied sports science; he is a former professional footballer, a physiotherapist (B.Sc.), a sought-after speaker and a personal trainer. As a movement therapist, he supports elite athletes at tournaments and is an expert in the fields of functional myofascial training, myofascial release, myofascial diagnostics and myofascial taping. He runs his own company, TYMGYM – Transform Your Movements, and is currently a research assistant at the Fascia Research Group at the University of Ulm. Johanna Bayer is a science journalist and author. She works in television and print media on health and medical topics, including muscles and movement, nutrition, brain research and cancer. She has been intensively involved in fascia research and its significance for everyday life, sport and pain therapy since 2012; together with Robert Schleip, she is the author of the bestseller *Fascia Fitness*, published by riva Verlag in 2014.Read an extract

Fascia Fitness (book) – expanded and revised edition
Fascia Fitness (book) – expanded and revised edition

Vital, supple and dynamic in everyday life and sport If you want to stay flexible, energetic and pain-free in everyday life and sport, you should take care of your connective tissue! This insight is now widely recognised in physiotherapy, sports science and medicine. After all, there have been enormous developments in this field in recent years. Muscular connective tissue plays a major role in well-being, mobility, performance and health: the so-called fasciae transmit the force of the muscles, communicate with the nervous system, serve as sensory organs, provide protection and facilitate the exchange of substances in the internal organs, and form the basis for a shapely physique. What was previously thought to be the sole preserve of muscles can also be achieved by connective tissue: it reacts to stress and stimuli, and if fasciae become matted or stuck together, this can result in pain and mobility problems. The fasciae should therefore be specifically trained – 10 minutes twice a week is enough! In this completely revised bestseller, fascia researcher and Rolfing therapist Robert Schleip demonstrates how a practical exercise programme can be incorporated into everyday life. He reports on the latest scientific findings from research and explains which methods and equipment are most effective for fascial treatment and which do more harm than good. These findings already play an important role in the field of physiotherapy and will continue to influence future treatment techniques. About the authors Robert Schleip is regarded as Germany’s leading fascia researcher. Johanna Bayer is a science journalist and writer for television programmes on ARD, WDR and Arte, as well as for popular magazines. She publishes regularly on medical topics, including muscles and movement, nutrition, brain research and anthropology, and is co-author of the bestsellers *Fascia Fitness* and *Fascia Strength Training*.
