It all began in fitness guru Greg Classman’s garage – today there are more than 4,000 facilities worldwide where CrossFit ® is practised. These CrossFit ® ‘boxes’ are former warehouses, gyms or garages equipped with mats, kettlebells, weights, ropes, medicine balls, lorry tyres, skipping ropes and chalk bags. CrossFitters aim to perform push-ups, box jumps, pull-ups or weightlifting exercises with dumbbells as many times as possible within a set time limit.
The training is extremely strenuous; afterwards, the athletes are drenched in sweat and, thanks to a massive endorphin rush, happier than ever. Unlike in normal gyms, the sense of camaraderie in the ‘Boxes’ is very strong and constantly spurs CrossFitters on to new personal bests.
